September 7th through 30th, 2018
GALLERI ERIK AXL SUND is proud to present an on-site creation of work by US artist Tom Franco and The Dreamers of Firehouse Art Collective, in an encounter with the work of Swedish artist Amanda Ooms.
Tom Franco: "The Spirit of Stockholm"
"The brothers, Jerker Eriksson and Håkan Axlander Sundquist, came and visited my home studio last year and enjoyed the works here. They said it was like the Spirit of California. They followed up with a communication saying, instead of shipping all your work over seas, why don't we come early and make work on site which would be the 'Spirit of Stockholm'. They promised to provide us with a bunch of raw materials to work with by driving us around and collecting things."
The exhibition is a collaboration/meeting with Swedish-Dutch artist, actress and director Amanda Ooms. She has exhibited her art in, amongst others, Stockholm, Malmö, Brighton, London, Brussels and Cologne. She has collaborated with photographers like Nan Goldin, JH Engström and Sam Taylor-Wood. For this exhibition, Amanda will show works primarily in ink and coal.
Tom Franco is an American fine art sculptor and mixed media artist. Born and raised in Palo Alto, California, Tom and his two brothers, James and Dave, grew up with parents who encouraged them to pursue their passion for the arts. Tom co-created the Firehouse Art Collective in 2004. The collective has evolved into a creative platform for his masterwork as a community artist. As its sole director, he now oversees artist studios and gallery spaces where artists collaborate and develop public art programs, housing, feature films, murals and live art happenings.
